Centre Access

The research Infrastructure in the Seaman Family Centre is available for imaging research studies. Generally, access is provided on a cost-recovery basis with rates determined by Alberta Health Services. A spreadsheet can be downloaded that lists current costs. The spreadsheet can also be used to help develop budgets for imaging research studies.

Funding from the Hotchkiss Brain Institute, through their Neuroimaging Research Unit (NIRU), has enabled us to provide some research time for neuroimaging Pilot studies. These exploratory studies are typically small, unfunded projects of ≤10 scanning sessions. They are intended to help secure preliminary data for subsequent grant applications. Investigators (and their Department Head) requesting Pilot study time are required to certify that no funding is available.

All requests for access to Seaman Family Centre resources are vetted via our Scientific Review Committee. We strive to keep the application process straightforward but require:

 Component Forms (Word and PDF)

1. A completed application for a Pilot or a Funded study form.

2. A completed Project Information form.

3. A completed study protocol.

In most instances, a draft of the grant proposal or the current Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board protocol is acceptable. The provided study protocol needs to provide key details of the imaging studies, including number of scans, time lines, and imaging sequence protocol.

All investigators are responsible for securing the appropriate research ethics board or animal care approvals from the appropriate local board and providing a copy of these certifications prior to study commencement. Investigators are also responsible for obtaining informed written consent from research subjects, prior to imaging.
